Students can use cardinal print in the Bay Studio on the 2nd floor. You will need to upload your documents on Cardinal Print and use your Stanford ID card to scan in. More info and step by steps here.

Need printer supplies, paper, ink refills or have questions on how to manage a complicated print job? Reach out to our IT Director Bruce at the front office or email bboyd@dschool.stanford.edu.

The vinyl printer is also located in the Bay Studio. Download PDF instructions on how to make decals here.

Student Finances

d.school Student Expenses

Class-related expenses? Here’s what you need to know:

Jamie Tongol is the point of contact/support for all class-related expenses. When in doubt about an expense, it’s best to check in with her before incurring, otherwise you may end up having to personally cover the expense. Contact her by email (jamie@dschool.stanford.edu), or stop by the d.school home studio with any questions.

Treasurer

If you’re working on a project team, elect one person to act as the “treasurer,” they will incur and process all expenses.

Expense Types

  • Snacks/Food/Meals

    • Meals are NOT covered by class funds

    • Snacks during full field days are allowable

    • Must have: Itemized receipt with proof of payment

    • Note: Stanford University guidelines require food-related expenses to be simple and alcohol-free

  • Transportation

    • Allowable for students as long as it is approved by the teaching team

    • Student should travel by carpool and submit mileage reimbursement requests. If this is not possible/feasible,

      • Use public transportation and seek reimbursements for expenses (proof of purchase required). If this is not possible/feasible,

      • Economy version of ride share may be used with approval from teaching team

    • Note: Stanford will only reimburse expenses from Stanford to the destination (not the student’s residence)

Please check with us before incurring the following expenses:

  • Prototyping Supplies : We encourage you to check in at the front desk of the d.school for prototyping supplies.

    • If you need to order additional supplies, please maintain the receipt with proof of payment for reimbursement.

  • Tech Supplies : Please check in with Bruce, the d.school IT Director for any technology related supplies.

How to Request a Reimbursement

All requests must:

  • be submitted within 7 days of incurring the expense. Limit requests to 1x/week.

  • be accompanied by an itemized receipt that includes the purchaser name, transaction date, and the last 4 digits of the account/mode of payment as well as the student certification form (FULL RECEIPT)

    1. Reimbursement Requests

    2. Mileage Reimbursement Request

Please be thorough in your form completion. It limits the potential for back-and-forth, as all the information asked for is required by Stanford central finance.

  1. Jamie receives the form submission and will contact you within 24 hours that the form has been received (usual processing time is 7-10 business days, end of quarters, especially end of the academic year, are very busy and require longer processing windows)

  2. The request is sent through necessary approvals and gets paid out by Stanford finance

Spaces

We have four large studio spaces for classes and one Bay Studio with a maker space for student projects and prototyping. They’re open to students at all hours with building access. We do ask you to have a buddy in the building during after hours to hold each other accountable and safe.

For any questions about spaces, you can email our front desk coordinator (spaces@dschool.stanford.edu)

Building Access

Once enrolled, your ID will automatically be entered in the door system and you can use it to boop into the building and studios. They are unlocked 9am-5pm and locked in the evening.

How to Reserve a Space for an Event or Meeting

Email Space Coordinator (spaces@dschool.stanford.edu) and a questionnaire will be sent to you asking about dates/times, who, what, where, etc.

Expectations

We love to share our spaces to facilitate your design work. To continue to do so, we need you to reset the space you've reserved when you're done. This allows others to set up their space and be the superstars they were meant to be..

Resetting the space includes:

  • Wiping down all the whiteboards

  • Follow the reset signs in each space on where to put furniture

  • Returning any tech borrowed to front desk in the main office - Room 169

  • Returning any craft/office supplies that were not taken from the studios used to front desk

You’ll find a reset sign in every studio and it looks like this:
