See How the d.school staff are hacking Their home office
“Doing #remotework since 2016 from my farm in MA, my favorite spot is my kitchen counter because it doubles as a standing desk and because the overhead lighting is perfect for zoom calls. (Also pictured: Molly the collie from Maine and my youngest who is either on Google Classroom or Fortnight).”
-Humera Fasihuddin, Co-Director, University Innovation Fellows Program
“Here’s my picture of working from home beside my kindergarten daughter Elena. One thing I have learned is to do my most focused work when she is doing her most playful/engaging work and assist her with her most challenging work when I have the most flexibility and tasks that require the least brainpower.”
-Kathryn Segovia, Head of Learning Experience Design for Executive Education
“Here are a few hacks:
We are a household of 4 adults, 3 of which need (in varying frequency) Zoom time, focused work time, exercise time, and break time.
Since we have limited space for all of that activity, we have a plan on workspaces; don't work where you sleep. Someone may work in my bedroom, or I may work in theirs, but we try not to work in our own rooms. Doing this changes up the environment and forces us to keep our rooms tidy!
We have a family meeting, every day and we talk about housekeeping (literally), the Zoom meeting schedule, and so on, so that we can get alignment on everything. My mom also informs of the menu for the evening. She used to be a caterer and loves meal planning.
We try to make it feel more like summer camp. :-)”
-Karen Ingram, Teaching & Learning Design Fellow
“All the monitors in the world won’t stop me from pulling out my post-it’s!”
